Abstract

A new multiple-abilities battery—the Comprehensive Ability Battery (CAB)—is described, and results of five criterion-related validity studies using 11 tests of the battery are reported. The results are based on three samples of grade 11 males and two samples of grade 11 females from schools varying in terms of the students' social class backgrounds. Correlations between each of the 11 CAB tests and year-end criterion grades in seven subject areas, as well as two scholastic averages, are presented, along with correlations between simple composites of several of the more predictive CAB tests and the same criteria. Finally, the present results are compared with those reported for the most widely-used composite of the Differential Aptitude Tests—that involving Verbal Reasoning and Numerical Ability.
