Abstract

Validity of self-reported weight, height and BMI in Italian adolescents for assessing prevalence of overweight/obesity

Highlights

  • Strategic goal To avoid premature deaths and significantly reduce the burden of preventable diet-related noncommunicable diseases, obesity and all other forms of malnutrition still prevalent in the WHO European Region, which are strongly influenced by social determinants of health and have a profound negative impact on well-being and quality of life

  • Analysis of the Global Burden of Disease Study 2010 shows that dietary factors are the most important factors that undermine health and well-being in every Member State in the WHO European Region

  • Of the six WHO regions, the European Region is the most severely affected by noncommunicable diseases (NCDs), which are the leading cause of disability and death; cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and respiratory diseases together account for 77% of the burden of disease and almost 86% of premature mortality
