Abstract
Although there are diverse screening tests for detecting infection by human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or syphilis, a dual rapid screening test has not yet been evaluated in our country for detecting both infections. The aim of the study was to determine the reliability of a dual rapid screening test for the detection of HIV and syphilis in a population covered by the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) healthcare system. We performed an epidemiological study to obtain information about the diagnostic value (sensitivity and specificity) of a dual rapid screening test to assess its usefulness as a screening test for HIV/Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) and syphilis infection, with a detection rate similar to that of conventional tests used separately.
