Abstract
PurposeThe aim of this work was to test the psychometric properties of the Arabic version of the BES (Basic Empathy Scale) by establishing its factor structure, its internal consistency and construct validity in the general population. Design and methodsThe BES was tested among 526 Tunisian adults. FindingsThe two-factor structure of the BES-20 was confirmed. Internal consistency and concurrent validity were very satisfactory. DiscussionThis scale will be useful for clinicians in various fields (mental health, psychiatry) in Arabic countries.
