Abstract

Escherichia coli disinfection experiments were conducted in a lab-scale continuously stirred tank reactor using monochloramine with the same experimental conditions as in a previous batch studies. The disinfection efficiency in the CSTR was predicted by a reactor engineering approach from batch kinetics and CSTR characterization. The prediction was compared with the observation by statistical analyses. The results indicated the validity of the batch disinfection kinetics for Escherichia coli disinfection and suggested an alternative approach for water treatment utilities to obtain disinfection credits without expensive pilot-scale studies.
