Abstract

This paper describes LOADSIM, a computer program designed to assist utilities in planning residential Demand-Side Management (DSM) strategies. LOADSIM simulates in detail the impacts of residential DSM technologies on utility system load shapes. It can be used by utilities to: ∘ Experiment with a large number of DSM technologies; ∘ Quickly evaluate DSM options; ∘ Estimate the long-term impacts of DSM strategies; ∘ Facilitate load research data transfer between utilities. This paper describes the calibration and validation process used by the authors to ensure the accuracy of LOADSIM results. Also included is a description of how Florida Power and Light Co. is using LOADSIM in its Residential Load Control Program.
