Abstract

We established usual values according to sex and age with Advantage ® system (Nichols) two years ago. We were recently obliged by the disappearance of this society to change our method for the Liaison ® system (DiaSorin), which uses the same initial machine. Results seemed significantly different. So, we established new usual values with this system. Our results confirmed that results are higher with Liaison ® DiaSorin than with Advantage ® Nichols. The values observed in infants, especially those aged less than 6 months, remained higher than in adults. In our adult population, calcitonin concentrations were higher in men. This difference, which is underlined by the manufacturer, has not been taken into account in current consensus values. We suggest the following usual values: < 50 ng/l up to six months, < 25 ng/l between six months and three years; over the age of three years, < 8 ng/l in females and < 16 ng/l in males.
