Abstract
The valence of Ce and the magnetic properties of the pseudoternary system Ce 1- x La x Mo 6S 8 were investigated by XPS, magnetic susceptibility and electrical resistance measurements. The valence of Ce in CeMo 6S 8 is trivalent and the compound shows the Kondo effect with T K = 3 K determined from a fit to the susceptibility data.
