Abstract

Valence electron distributions are analyzed for crystals of various types. It is found that for a given element the distance from the center of an atom to the maximum (minimum) along the “bond” the valence electron density remains roughly the same in crystals of different structures. A correlation is shown to exist between the distance mentioned above and the radius of the external valence orbital of the free atom.
