Abstract
Optical transitions from spin-orbit split-off valence band Γ 7 to the conduction band Γ 6 were directly observed in transmission measurements on thin samples of CdTe and Cd 1−xMn xTe. Precise values of spin-orbit splittings were determined. Giant Zeeman splitting of Γ 7 - Γ 6 exciton in Cd 1−xMn xTe was observed and found coherent with corresponding splitting of Γ 8-Γ 6 exciton.
