Abstract
The present study deals with the effect of the evacuated tube solar collectors on the heat storage performance of a solar pond. For the experimental work, a solar pond system with a radius of 0.80 m and a depth of 1.60 m and four evacuated tube solar collectors was built in Cukurova University in Adana, Turkey. Heat energy collected by evacuated tube solar collectors was transferred to the solar pond storage zone by using a heat exchanger system. The temperature and density distribution of the system were measured by using thermocouples and hydrometers. Experimental studies were performed by using 1, 2, 3 and 4 evacuated tube solar collectors. As a result, the temperature increases in the solar pond were determined as 1.56, 2.37, 3.45 and 4.01 °C for 1, 2, 3 and 4 collectors, respectively. It is seen that the temperature of the solar pond has increased from 15 °C to 25 °C within four days.
