Abstract

Abstract In this select population, we found a high frequency of in vitro fluconazole resistance in vaginal Candida albicans. Resistance did not reliably predict future susceptibility. Among clinician-ordered vaginal cultures positive for Candida albicans, 30% exhibited fluconazole resistance. Resistance did not reliably predict future susceptibility. Prospective studies to verify associations with demographic and clinical factors as well as to correlate in vitro resistance with treatment response and longitudinal resistance patterns are needed.
