Abstract

The motif of vagina dentata, a toothed vagina, is found in folklore, psychoanalysis, and popular culture. Psychoanalysis presents vagina dentata as a representation of male fears of women's sexuality; feminist understandings of vagina dentata argue that it is a symbol of psychological and cultural fears about women's sexuality. Lesbian writers present vagina dentata as a symbol of sexual passion.
