Abstract

A recent article in Pediatrics1 indicates an association of multifocal myocardial necrosis with pancreatic diseases in children. Three possible pathologies of the myocardial lesions are discussed: (1) the possibility of some type of deficiency; (2) a consequence of release of an active enzyme; or (3) secondary to acute destruction of the pancreas with release and activation of mediators. We recently reported identical myocardial lesions in a primate following vagal stimulation.2 This finding can imply a quite different association between pancreatic disease and myocardial necrosis.
