Abstract

Vacuum-field solutions of Ross (1972) and Sen-Dunn (1971) theories of gravitation have been obtained with the aid of a Friedmann-type metric. Non-static solutions are found showing that the Birkhoff theorem holds for neither theory. It has been observed that the two theories have a limited scope for vacuum solution as against the Brans-Dicke theory. Mach's principle, however, holds for both the theories.
