Vacuum assisted excision as an alternative treatment option for benign breast lesions

Abstract

Background: Vacuum assisted excision (VAE) is a method to remove benign tumors under ultrasound guidance, using large tissue samples. Although this technique is available and widely accepted, most hospitals in the Netherlands still perform a surgery for fibro adenomas. In this study we compare the re-excision rate, complication rate and cosmetic outcome after VAE and surgical excision (SE) of fibroadenomas.
