Abstract

Background: Ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) comprises of 20% of all new cases of breast cancer. The risk of invasive disease in patients with DCIS ranges from 5% to 44% in various studies. Association of breast surgery (ABS) guidelines state surgical excision should be carried out on patients found to have DCIS and if invasive cancer is found, axillary staging is required.
