Abstract

Despite the great success and popularity of adjustable gastric banding (AGB) in Europe, some concerns exist about the high rate of long-term complications. The most frequent of these complications is gastric pouch dilatation. Patients who don’t feel a sense of fullness may fill the proximal gastric pouch with a large amount of food causing an enlargement of the stomach above the band. The onset can be chronic or acute and in many cases requires reoperation.
