Abstract

V3Ga wire has been fabricated by the modified jelly roll technique for the first time. Critical current densities in magnetic fields to 22 T, critical magnetic fields, and superconducting transition temperatures are reported for this wire as a function of reaction temperature for forming the interfacial V3Ga layer. Superconducting properties of the reacted wire are optimized for reaction temperatures between 550–580 °C. With a reaction temperature of 580 °C, the overall (noncopper) current density of the wire is over 104 amp/cm2 at 19 T.
