Abstract

Abstract Zinc ion batteries (ZIBs) receive great attention because of their low cost, high safety and environmental friendliness. V2O5 has great potential as a cathode material for ZIBs, but it has poor stability at high current density. To solve this problem, V2O5@CNTs composites are prepared, and the high conductivity of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is used to improve the rate capability of the electrode. The capacity retention ratio of V2O5@CNTs electrode is 72% after 6000 cycles at 5 A g−1, 36% higher than that of pure V2O5. Moreover, the effect of relatively cheap 1 M ZnSO4/1 M2SO4(M = Li, Na or K) type mixed electrolyte are studied preliminarily, and it is found that 1 M ZnSO4/1 M Na2SO4 mixed electrolyte could significantly improve the electrochemical performance of the V2O5@CNTs cathode. This study provides attractive strategies for improving the stability of the cathode of ZIBs.
