Abstract

Leaders of ANUC tended to fall among the elder cohort of the rural population and to be inactive in both civic organizations and partisan political activity. As hypothesized at the outset of the investigation, peasant leaders in the state of Valle del Cauca tended to be (1) more educated and (2) more secure economically in the sense of holding clear title to larger parcels of land than their counterparts in Boyaca.
