Abstract

Experimental research method was used in this study to examine the development of environmental protection awareness in adolescents through adapted physical education and sports activities. The population and sample of the study consists of the 2022-2023 academic year and a total of 24 volunteer students, 9 of whom are male and 15 of whom are female, from Başköy Secondary School (7th and 8th grade) in Antalya Kepez district. An 8-week program was applied in the study. The content of the applied program: Week 1; throwing different wastes into different garbage bins, Week 2: Zoo trip and nature walk, and changes caused by garbage thrown into the environment, Week 3: Game of turning off a dripping or left open tap, Week 4 sapling planting game, 5th week, the game of turning off the lights, air conditioners and smart boards that were left on unnecessarily inside the school, In the 6th week, the game of watering saplings with a certain amount of water in a certain period of time, in the 7th week, the game of warning the students who throw garbage on the ground, The 8th week team observation game is based on the rule that the team that is successful at the end of this game will be given more dog and cat food and delivered to the animals around us. The data of the study was obtained using the "Environmental Awareness Scale". The scale was applied to the research group as pre-test and post-test. The obtained data is transferred to the computer environment and used in the appropriate statistical program; frequency (%), Paired Sample T-Test procedures were performed. A confidence interval of 0.05 was accepted to detect differences. As a result of the evaluation of the data; environmentally friendly behavior, caring behavior towards the environment, energy/product saving against the environment, statistically significant results were obtained in terms of environmental recycling dimensions at the 0.05 significance level. As a result, we can say that the "environmental protection awareness program in adolescents with adapted physical education and sports activities" is effective in creating and developing environmental protection awareness in adolescents.
