Abstract

The Partial Dielectric-loaded TEM (PDTEM) horn structure which can yield wider band characteristics than conventional TEM horn and planar antennas with a bandwidth ratio greater than 20:1 is designed for hand-held GPR systems to enhance the impulse radiation. The performance results are compared with the planar antennas and empty TEM horn. The physical restrictions of the hand-held operation are considered and the adaptive designs for the multi-sensor operations of GPR with metal detector (EMI sensor) are presented.
