Abstract

This work focuses on a technique to create ultrawideband (UWB) monocycle and doublet pulses utilizes the cross-phase modulation (XPM) effect in semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) in nonlinear loop mirror. The method is simple and solid because involves only an SOA in interferometeric arrangement. Furthermore, only one frequency doublet signal is produced. Hence, it could be simply organized, and evade the dispersion effect. The UWB monocycle and doublet pulses are realized on the same optical circuit. Since there is a wavelength conversion involved, it can be concluded that the cross phase modulation (XPM) has taken place to realize the generation of both pulses. Positive and negative polarities in pulses are clearly monitored and recorded.
