Abstract

Objective : The objective was to estimate prevalence of uveitis in children diagnosed as having Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis (JRA) and identify risk factors of uveitis amongst them. Methods : A cross sectional hospital based study. All newly diagnosed children of JRA attending our paediatric rheumatology clinic and uveitis clinic from Sep 2011 to January 2013 were included. JRA cases were divided into oligoarticular, polyarticular and systemic onset type. Types of uveitis seen were divided into acute anterior, recurrent anterior, chronic anterior and healed anterior type. Rheumatoid factor and ANA testing was done. Results : Out of 161 cases of JRA, 30 (18.6 %) had uveitis. Out of the cases with uveitis 80% had oligoarticular, 20% had polyarticular and none had systemic onset type JRA. Mean age of onset of JRA in cases with uveitis was 6.4yr+/-1.3. Mean age of onset of JRA in cases without uveitis was 7.8 +/-1.3. This difference was statistically significant p
