Abstract
Photopolymerization of diacetylene monocarboxylic acid in Langmuir—Blodgett films was studied by UV photoelectron spectroscopy. Upon polymerization, the ionization threshold energy decreased by 1.6 eV from 6.7 (monomer) to 5.1 eV (polymer). No change of the threshold was found between the blue and red forms of the polymer. This suggests that the polymer chain is in the acetylenic form in both forms. The mechanism of spectra sensitization by dyes is also discussed.
