Abstract

Summary Plane wave migration techniques can produce high quality migration results efficiently. Split-spread gathers containing both positive and negative ray-parameter information are required to implement plane wave migrations optimally. In this study, we investigate the reciprocity property of double plane wave (DPW) dataset. We show that application of reciprocity can be straightforward by decomposing shot gathers into DPW domain. Using a 2D line from SEG/EAGE salt model, we demonstrate a procedure to obtain a combined DPW dataset transformed from one-sided marine gathers. The combined DPW dataset approximates the DPW dataset transformed from split-spread shot gathers. We also show that utilizing the reciprocity principle can increase the DPW migration efficiency.
