Abstract

Iron ore tailing (IOT) is the wastes generated during the salutariness process of iron ore concentration. These wastes are abundant in quantity, which can be utilized in many ways. In this manuscript, utilization potential of IOT as a resource and its adaptation in the replacement of different industrial raw materials have been discussed. The physico-chemical properties of IOT are one of the major factors responsible for its vast usability. Literature from eminent researchers suggested that IOT can be successfully used in the manufacturing of building blocks, replacement of fine aggregate, in powder technology, Bick manufacturing, synthesis of glass fiber, etc. In precast concrete opportune properties with respect to Portland cement can be achieved with up to 50% IOT replacement along with mineral admixtures. In spray concrete, the IOT works very well in the replacement of fine aggregate and give competitive results. The details of physical and chemical properties show that more profound applications can be researched in the future.
