Abstract

In 1975 the two senior authors, together with J. W. Greene, published data showing little difference in overall listener performance for single, double, and triple word test item configurations from the six monosyllabic word lists of the Modified Rhyme Test (MRT), a multiple choice intelligibility test. Subsequently, the tri‐word configuration (TMRT) has been utilized in laboratory evaluations of speech communications equipment and the ability of individuals to hear speech in noise. Data reflecting the versatility and potential of the TMRT for such evaluations are presented. Included among the data are TMRT performance scores and pure tone hearing levels for selected age groups.
