Abstract

Soyabean oil is one of the most abundant and low-cost vegetable oils available in most parts of the world. In presence study, Novel polyester polyols were prepared physically blending from Soya phosphate ester polyol (SOPEP) and Soyabean oil based monoglyceride. High solids polyurethane (PU) coating formulations were developed by reacting novel polyester polyols with aromatic as well as aliphatic isocyanate adducts in different NCO/OH ratios. Structure of polyurethane resins was confirmed by FT-IR spectroscopy. The polyurethane resins were coated on test panels and tested for their flexibility, scratch hardness, cross-hatch adhesion, impact hardness, pencil hardness and solvent resistance as per standards. Thermal stability of these polymers was determined by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA).
