Abstract

Large amount of construction materials, usually obtained from natural sources, is being rapidly consumed in road construction. The procurement of these natural materials incorporates rigorous environmental and economic impacts. Thus, there is an urge to find alternative ways for sustainable development. The present workemphases on the consumption of recycled concrete waste for use inflexible pavement. Specimens comprising recycled concrete aggregates were characterized for potential usage in granular subbase/base layer of flexible pavements. Laboratory tests were carried out to determine the optimum moisture content, maximum dry density and the effective CBR of the compacted sample. It was concluded that the value of CBR for recycled concrete aggregates was in the permissible range.
