Abstract

The increase in population and industrial revolution has augmented the amount of municipal solid waste. Millions of tons of municipal solid waste are generated day by day due to rapid urbanization. Incineration is the most efficient way to reduce waste mass by 70% and volume by up to 90%. But still, the by-product of incineration of the municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) ash is increasing considerably, which is causing severe environmental problems and health hazards not even in urban areas but also in the rural environment. Thus, the possible reuses of these MSWI ash with cement and fiber can help in reducing the problems arise due to the same. This paper is mainly focused on geotechnical behavior of municipal solid waste incineration ash blended with stabilizers such as cement, fiber, etc. In order to evaluate the effect of these stabilizers on the compaction and strength behavior of municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) ash, works done by various researchers on the same are studied. This review summarizes the possible reuse of MSWI ash that can be applied in various fields of civil engineering like road, embankment, concrete, and various geotechnical applications.
