Introduction

Diabetes mellitus is one major health challenge worldwide which was estimated to affect about 371 million people in 2012 [2]. Diabetes mellitus has been classified to be the 3rd and 10th leading cause of mortality worldwide among the females and males respectively and in 2012, almost 5 million deaths were due to diabetes [2]. World Health Organization has estimated that 70-90 % of Africa’s population still relies on herbal remedies in order to meet their healthcare needs. The role of herbal medicines in the management of diabetes is an emerging health issue, use of herb remedies is common among diabetics.
