Abstract

Radioactively labeled glycine was produced from glyoxylate-14C by cell-free extracts of acetate-grown Bacillus megaterium KM. Alanine and aspartate were the best amino group donors for the transamination reaction. Glutamate or alpha-ketoglutarate had no effect on such activity. Glyoxylate reductase activity was also present but glyoxylate carboligase and tartronic semialdehyde reductase were absent.
