Abstract

The importance of genetics within endocrine disorders is well recognized. However, the broader trends and patterns of endocrinologist referrals to medical genetics is unknown. Such information can optimize resource utilization and access to services for patients with genetic endocrinopathy. Therefore, we assessed the utilization of genetic services by endocrinologists in a Canadian region encompassing both academic and community providers over 17 years. We undertook a retrospective quality improvement study, utilizing visits to the Maritimes Medical Genetics Service (MMGS), a comprehensive medical genetics service for all of the Canadian Maritimes.
