Abstract

Clinical evaluation is not always sufficient for a conclusive diagnosis. The objective of this study is to evaluate the validity of toluidine blue test for the diagnosis of oral lesions. The sample was comprised of 110 patients with oral lesions. Following the established protocol, the toluidine blue test was applied in all lesions. One hundred and five lesions were biopsied and histopathology considered the gold standard diagnosis. The toluidine blue test was positive in 31 out of the 110 lesions, in 20 focal and 11 diffuse positivity. It was conclude that the toluidine blue test is a useful tool as an auxiliary method for the diagnosis of oral lesions.
