Abstract

The song may be old but the message is still true: Ev'rythin's up to date in Kansas City. Kansas City, Mo., has active, functioning, utility coordination with full participation from all utilities in the city. It does not have a committee with the sole function of coordinating these various operating utilities. The lack of such a committee has not impeded coordination; on the contrary, over the years other procedures have solved the many problems arising between public and private utilities in their normal day-to-day operation, maintenance, and construction, and between utilities on the one side, and the city, state, or county on the other, during the construction or reconstruction of streets, highways, sanitary sewers, and storm drains. The procedures have been quite effective in keeping interutility field conflicts at a minimum while generally expediting the construction or reconstruction of public improvement projects.
