Abstract

Nowadays, it has become more and more
 usual to see non-traditional animals as pets, which
 increases the demand for their medical care and other
 diverse medical services. For this study, samples
 were taken by fine needle aspiration, in some cases
 ultrasound guided, obtaining a total of 16 samples
 of different non-traditional companion animals
 (ferret, iguana, hedgehog, guinea pig, rat, turtle,
 rabbit and bearded dragon) in a period of 3 months
 at the Wildlife Hospital of the Veterinary Medicine
 Faculty, UNAM. According to the observed slides, 2
 samples were non-diagnostic, 2 were lymphoma, 5
 inflammatory disease (2 heterophilic and 3 mixed), 2
 squamous cell carcinomas, 1 chordoma, 1 neoplasm
 mesenchymal (possible lipoma), 2 mesenchymal
 lesions, and 1 sarcoma (histiocytic or lymphoma).
 These results coincided with those published by
 other authors taking according to each species.
