Abstract

The use of subdoses of medication applied to acupuncture points produces an effect similar to the conventional dose, with the advantage of having fewer side effects and reducing the cost of treatment. The objective of this work was to evaluate the effectiveness of hormonal subdoses at acupuncture points (acupoints): Bai Hui (lumbosacral space), and VG 1 (Hou Hai). The application was 10% of the dose of prostaglandin hormones (Lutalyse®, Pfizer – SP, Brazil), and equine chorionic gonadotropin - eCG (Novormon®). It was observed that pharmacopuncture can be as efficient as conventional methods of inducing estrus and pregnancy rate in Santa Inês sheep. Pharmacopuncture becomes an alternative to hormonal administration in estrus and ovulation synchronization protocols in sheep.
