Abstract

Building on the discussion in Chapters 3 and 4, this chapter examines US-Japan trade negotiations during the Uruguay Round agriculture negotiations, focusing on those concerning market access. The chapter concludes by addressing the question: To what extent did domestic politics affect the agreement the United States and Japan reached in the Uruguay Round agriculture negotiations? The question is answered by assessing the validity of the three hypotheses concerning US-Japan trade negotiations set out at the end of Chapter 2.
