Abstract

Objectives: During COVID-19, we studied the direct and indirect effects of household economic levels on health status through the mediation of changes in economic levels. Methods: In comparison between the changed and not changed group of health status, the continuous data compared with independent t-test and the categorical type tested chi-square test. Whether economic levels changed due to COVID-19 as an influencing factor of youth health Structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to evaluate the direct effect of COVID-19 and the indirect effect through the downgrading of the economic level caused by COVID-19. Results: The direct effect of changes in household economic status due to COVID-19 on health status was β = -0.13, which had a significantly negative effect (<i>p</i> < 0.001), and the indirect effect through household economic status was also β = –0.05. There was a significant adverse effect (<i>p</i> < 0.001). Conclusions: It was found that when the economic condition worsens, it has an adverse effect on the economic levels of the family and the health status of the youth. In cases where economic conditions deteriorate due to crises such as pandemics, more attention should be paid to youth health promotion.
