Abstract

In 2011-12, direct observation at three pediatric long-term care facilities (pLTCF) in the New York metropolitan area revealed that adherence with the World Health Organization (WHO) “5 Moments for Hand Hygiene” was low overall (43%) and lower for non-clinical caregivers such as teachers and recreational therapists (14%). The purpose of this Project was to educate staff about when to perform hand hygiene (HH) by developing workflow assessments for commonly performed tasks involving residents.
