Abstract

The wide acceptance of smart devices and voice assistants in modern society has created a new playing field of which hackers can take advantage to retrieve personal data from smart device users. Because smart devices and voice assistants are relatively new, there are many cyber security concerns with them that have yet to be addressed on a wide scale. In this research work, we discuss cyber security concerns related to the use of voice assistant technology in Internet of Things devices including Amazon’s Alexa, Apple’s Siri, and Google’s Google Assistant and propose voice and facial authentication algorithms that provide countermeasures against these cyber security concerns. Our proposed solutions are a step towards increasing the security of voice assistant technology.
