Abstract

Background: The Copperbelt University School of Medicine is a new school of medicine in Zambia, the second such public medical school in the country. There is a critical shortage of doctors and dentists in Africa generally and in Zambia particularly, where only about 1,400 physicians and fewer than 50 dental surgeons are available to treat more than 14 million people. To help address this need, the government of Zambia opened this new school in November 2011.
