Abstract

Handheld high-frequency ultrasound is a helpful tool for an aesthetic injector, and its use is becoming more common in aesthetic practices. Ultrasound can be used to guide dermal filler injections and avoid complications. With ultrasound, the practitioner can garner clues to identify the type and age of previously injected fillers. It can help determine the best depth or plane of injections, as well as monitor the efficacy of aesthetic treatments other than injections and monitor the progression of certain dermatologic diseases. The aesthetic practitioner should seriously consider adding ultrasound to their diagnostic armamentarium.
