Abstract

A support cushion specially designed to ensure good positioning of the upper limb and to improve posture was assessed on 10 hemiplegic patients with flaccid paralysis. A reduction in spasticity, bad posture, and shoulder and arm pain was seen in most patients while using the cushion compared with conventional devices. This simple measure was found to be universally accepted by patients, staff and relatives. It represents a useful aid in flaccid hemiplegia and may prove important in the prevention of subluxation of the shoulder joint.
