Abstract
Full-time nurse educators have been enhancing the focus on clinical judgment in the classroom over the past few years to prepare graduate nurses for the Next Generation NCLEX (NGN) licensure examination. The time has come to turn our attention to clinical adjunct instructors and assist them in learning and integrating strategies that allow consistent formative assessment aligned with the NCSBN Clinical Judgment Measurement Model (NCJMM). This article highlights unique challenges adjuncts may face in learning and implementing significant changes in teaching and learning. It presents a way of applying the model known as the NGN Clinical Judgment Slide technique. It also provides 24 innovative approaches to encourage more profound, meaningful conversations in the clinical unit. As adjunct faculty identify gaps in student thinking processes, they will be able to redirect learning to improve clinical judgment and patient outcomes.
