Abstract

This article examines regulatory legal acts in the field of information security of the Russian Federation and countering extremism, including plenums of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, regulating such concepts as “extremism” and “social networks”, as well as the main activities in this area. The author studies national and foreign scientists’ views on the issue of understanding the concept of social media including the youth environment. Legislative decisions of different countries in the sphere of information confrontation with extremism are analyzed. The article discusses the problem of rapid development of ways and methods being used to involve new participants of extremist and other unlawful activity by means of telecommunication networks including the Internet. The author stresses the need for improving the state information security system and interaction between countries. Sharing extensive experience as well as preventing extremist behaviour and extremism through measures of administrative and criminal responsibility appear to be necessary.
