Abstract
A total of 354 chicks at marketing age (6 weeks) of four broiler strains (Arbor Acres, 91 chicks; Hubbard, 99 chicks; Hypro, 86 chicks and Lohman, 78 chicks) were used in this study to investigate the influence of the strain on live body weight, dressed and carcass weights as well as some body measurements, the correlation between slaughter parameters and some body measurements in the four broiler strains and predicting live body weight and carcass weight using some body measurements. The obtained results demonstrated that, the strain had insignificant effect on the studied traits. Live body weight and carcass weight were positively and significantly (p<0.01) correlated with all body measurements in different strains. From this study results, the breast circumference, breast width and body length could be used for predicting carcass weight as well as body weight in different broiler strains.
