Abstract

Abstract: People with disabilities have many difficulties to interact with daily devices, mostly because of inherent limitations of their deficiency. Simple activities like turning lights, TV, fan or any other device on can be even impossible for these people. In this study, the problem of interaction with an intelligent environment through two paradigms of Human-Computer Interface (HCI) was addressed. The first one uses surface electromyography (sEMG) and electrooculography (EOG), caught by an EEG/sEMG device (Emotiv EPOC), and the second one uses videooculography (VOG) caught by an eye tracker (Eye Tribe Tracker). Results from both paradigms were compared using two metrics: Information Transfer Rate (ITR) and Utility, obtaining maximum ITR of 84.37 bits/min and Utility of 37.86 bits/min.
